ABORTION

ABORTION

Text: Psalm 139:14-16.

Purpose: To show the sinfulness of abortion.

Delivered on: January 26, 2003. Streetsboro.

For some reason the Outlining is messed up on this one.  Probably because it was converted out of an old WordPerfect file.

Introduction.

1.Wednesday, January 22, 2003 marked the 30th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision entitled Roe v. Wade.

2.This decision struck down all laws of any kind, State, Federal, or Local that protected the lives of unborn human children.

3.We emphasize “human” because it is still legal to protect unborn animals.

4.Let us see what we can learn about abortion.

Body.

  1. Background Information.

    1. How are abortions done?

      1. First Trimester.

        1. Menstrual extraction.

          1. Very early suction abortion.

          2. Often done before pregnancy tests are even positive.

        2. Suction-aspiration.

          1. Surgeon paralyzes the cervical muscle ring and then stretches it open.

          2. He inserts a hollow plastic tube, which has a knife-like edge on the tip into the uterus.

          3. Suction tears the baby’s body to pieces.

          4. Then uses the knife to cut the placenta from the uterine wall.

          5. Scraps are sucked out into a bottle.

        3. Dilatation & Curettage (D&C).

          1. Similar to suction.

          2. But surgeon uses a loop shaped knife to cut the baby and the placenta into pieces and scrapes them out into a basin.

        4. RU486 and Prostaglandin.

          1. RU486 is an anti-hormone.

          2. It inhibits the production of progesterone.

          3. This keeps the uterine wall from being able to support the pregnancy.

          4. This results in the baby literally starving to death.

          5. Within 48 hours only 3% have a completed abortion.

          6. Most have to take the Prostaglandin to finish the job.

      2. Second Trimester.

        1. During 70's and 80's most common type was saline amniocentesis.

          1. A concentrated salt solution is injected into the amniotic fluid.

          2. The baby breathes and swallows it.

          3. It is poisoned, struggles, convulses and dies about an hour later.

          4. This method is generally not used anymore due to danger to the mother.

        2. Dilatation and Evacuation (D&E).

          1. No anesthetic for the baby.

          2. A pliers-like instrument is inserted into the uterus.

          3. The surgeon grabs leg or other part of the body and, with a twisting motion, tears it from the baby’s body.

          4. This is repeated again and again.

          5. The spine must be snapped and the skull crushed to remove them.

          6. A nurse reassembles the body parts to make sure all of them have been removed.

      3. Third Trimester.

        1. The partial birth abortion is performed.

        2. The entire infant is delivered except for the head.

        3. Scissors are jammed into the base of the skull.

        4. A tube is then inserted to suck the baby’s brains out.

        5. The dead infant is delivered.

    1. Should the abortion issue be important to the Christian?

      1. The basic question is, “When does human life begin?”

      2. If we can prove that life begins at conception, then abortion is murder.

      3. We, as Christians, then must stand against it!

      4. Since Roe v. Wade, at least 40,000,000 unborn babies have been aborted.

      5. Let’s put this into perspective.

        1. There are more deaths in one month than there were Americans killed in the entire Vietnam War.

        2. The entire state of Maine (1.25 million) or Nebraska (1.6 million) is wiped out every year.

        3. Total deaths since Roe v. Wade = the combined population of 23 states! (Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, & Wyoming)

  1. Four basic positions concerning when life begins.

    1. The infant becomes human at some point after birth.

      1. Proponents of this view doe not equate life with humanity. To them, the child is living before it is human.

      2. Some of these people have suggested that babies should be examined after birth and if they are unhealthy or abnormal, should be put to death.

      3. This view is not held by many.

      4. This view has no Biblical basis whatsoever.

    1. Babies become human after taking their first breath of air.

      1. This view claims a Biblical basis (Gen. 2:7). And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

        1. If babies were formed in the same way as Adam, this would be a valid argument.

        2. A child doesn’t wait until birth to breath. Oxygen is received via the mother form conception to birth.

      2. Other criteria for life make it clear that the baby is a living soul before being born.

        1. Gen. 9:4-5. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. (5) And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

        2. An unborn baby has its own blood supply, independent of the mothers.

        3. Prov. 6:16-17.These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: (17) A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

        4. How God must hate the hands of abortionists!

    1. Life begins when the baby could survive outside the mother’s body (viability).

      1. This position has no biblical foundation at all.

      2. This is a measure of how advanced medical technology is.

        1. Babies survive today that would have surely perished 30 years ago.

        2. Are premature babies human today but not 30 years ago.

    1. Life begins at conception.

      1. This is the biblical view (Psa. 139:14-16). I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. (15) My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. (16) Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

      2. All that is added to the baby after conception is nourishment and oxygen.

      3. An unborn baby is simply a human being at a very early stage of development.

      4. A fertilized ovum is genetically identifiable as human, and is unique.

      5. At 3 wks, the heart begins to beat.

      6. At 4 wks, the brain and spinal cord are well underway.

      7. By the end of six wks. all of the baby’s organs are in place and functioning to some extent.

      8. They just continue to improve and grow from that time on.

  1. Realizing that life begins at conception, what can Christians do about abortion?

    1. Pray.

      1. Pray for government officials (1 Tim. 2:1-3).I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; (2) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. (3) For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

        1. Prov. 14:34.Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

        2. Prov. 29:2. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

      2. Pray for women with difficult pregnancies.

        1. Most aborting moms are panicked, uninformed, and desperate.

        2. Some are pressured by boyfriends or even parents.

      3. Pray for abortionists (Mt. 5:44). But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

    1. Vote.

      1. This is one way that we can be salt and a light (Mt. 5:13-16).Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (14) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. (15) Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. (16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

      2. You are a Christian everywhere you go, including the voting booths.

      3. God ordained civil gov’t. to administer justice (Rom. 13:1-8).Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. (2) Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (3) For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: (4) For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. (5) Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. (6) For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. (7) Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (8) Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

      4. We are given the right in our form of Gov,’t. to elect those whom we feel have the best values.

    2. Teach.

      1. Teach and practice Biblical sexual morality (Heb. 13:4). Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

        1. All sexual relations outside of marriage are wrong

        2. Prevent unwanted pregnancies through abstinence!

      2. Teach the biblical view of human life.

        1. Gen. 1:27.So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

        2. Mt. 7:12.Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

      3. Teach the facts about abortion.

        1. You may be surprised at how little people know about abortion.

        2. We can be sure that Pro-Choice people are teaching their lies.

      4. Teach the plan of salvation.

        1. Unless we do this, we are just treating the symptoms.

        2. The cause must be removed and then the symptoms will be gone for good.

Conclusion.

  1. Life is precious.

  2. We are made in God’s image.

  3. Heaven will be filled with the souls of babies who have been killed.

  4. Will you be there?
